RESCUING: Freeing or delivering from confinement, violence, danger, or evil.

UNWANTED:  Having no value, necessity, demand, or requirement (an undeserved label).

SLAUGHTER: The killing and butchering for food.

HORSES: Large, solid-hoofed, herbivorous quadrupeds of the family Equidae.

RUSH is a proactive, anti-horse slaughter, organization created to give horses with unknown names, breeds and backgrounds irrefutable identities, and lifetime protection.  The horse community has many organizations operating registries based on a horse's breed, characteristic, ability and/or perforformance, yet there is an undetermined, but significant, number of horses that don't meet these registry's requirements.  Other horses may have lost, or never had, an identity due to sale, seizure or auction.  RUSH acknowledges the horses once labeled 'unwanted', be it from irresponsible breeding or irresponsible ownership.

RUSH's Registry unequivocally identifies, documents, and protects horses with unknown or unproven backgrounds.  Unknown data in any horse's background is replaced with history beginning right now.  *****RUSH is excited to offer cutting edge genetic information to owners of rescued horses with unknown breeding.  RUSH has an agreement with a leading geneticist that can provide a breed assignment analysis.  Our optional Breed Assignment Analysis includes the DNA profile, and the top three breeds your horse exhibits.*****   RUSH does not discriminate against age, gender or breeding.  Any equine type (horse, pony, donkey, mule, etc.), purebred or crossbred is invited and welcomed to apply.  Please see our Registry page under Membership for details.

NEW FOR 2012: RUSH is going international.  We are excited to extend registration to horses beyond our borders.

NEW FOR 2011: RUSH is challenging the statement, "No one really knows how many unwanted or neglected horses there are in the United States" through the implementation of our Rise of the Phoenix Program.  This Program was created to begin documenting the number of disparate horses saved from disadvanted situations.  On an annual basis, we will supply evidential numbers of horses saved (from abuse, auction, neglect, cruelty, or the threat of slaughter) to aid in introducing, and supplementing, legislative changes to better protect our nation's equines.  We believe our strength is in numbers, and chose this program to act as a united voice for horses and their new owners.  Participation in this program is free.  Rise of the Phoenix Program

RUSH is a proud member of The Homes For Horses Coalition, and Equine Welfare Alliance, and we work directly with Animals' Angels.

Meet Pepper's Peek-A-Boo Ghost, the spokeshorse of RUSH.  Ghost is a registered Saddlebred (now double registered rescue horse), that was saved from slaughter 2 weeks shy of his 3rd birthday.  He was 275lbs underweight, had abscesses in all hooves, an upper respiratory infection, lice, and a skull fracture.  Ghost has recovered from his mental and physical abuse, has learned to trust human beings again, and progresses every day.  RUSH is proud to have Ghost speak for us.
